The Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Belleville was founded in 1969, when the education in architectural design was split off from the famous Parisian Ecole des Beaux-Arts. The school focuses on research and education in close connection with architectural practice. At ENSA Paris-Belleville research is carried out through the Institut Parisien de Recherche: Architecture, Urbanistique, Société (IPRAUS), which is the department that participates in the UKNA. The area of research includes architectural history and heritage, architecture of dwellings, territorial architecture, transport and sustainability and the study of Asian and African cities. Characteristic for IPRAUS is its focus on combining architecture, urbanism and landscape design with sociology and the human sciences.
