The Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Macau invites applications for the position of Full Professor or Associate Professor in the area of Urban Studies. Information about the Faculty of Social Sciences is available at the University website:

http://www.umac.mo/fss/.

The University of Macau is a leading higher educational institution in Macao and is making strides towards becoming internationally recognized for its excellence in teaching, research and service to the community. The University is growing rapidly with a number of new strategic initiatives including the relocation to a new campus and the establishment of the largest Residential College system in Asia. The new campus is 20 times larger than the present one with a projected fast growth of student intake and faculty size. English is the University’s working language.

Qualifications

Necessary qualifications include a PhD degree in a related discipline; we are primarily interested in applicants with experience in Urban Geography, but we will also consider applicants in the areas of Urban Sociology, Urban Anthropology, Urban Planning, Heritage Studies, etc. The successful applicant will undertake collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects on local urban issues and may eventually help to develop a program in Urban Studies (if future student demand and staff hiring justifies such a development). Applicants should have an innovative research program and a substantial record of publication in international outlets, and teaching and leadership experience at the university level. We are especially interested in applicants with some knowledge about urban issues related to Macau and/or the surrounding region, and with the ability to contribute to a new interdisciplinary Master’s degree program in Macau Studies. There is currently no urban studies program in the faculty so the successful applicant will initially be attached to a related department. The faculty is currently affiliated with the Urban Knowledge Network Asia, a research network funded by a grant from the European Union that links staff in institutions in Europe, China, India, and the United States.
The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in August 2014.

Position and Remuneration
Remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicant’s academic qualification, current position and professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.

Application Procedure

Applicants should visit http://www.umac.mo/vacancy for more details, and apply ONLINE at Jobs@UM (https://isw.umac.mo/recruitment) (Ref. No.: FSS/US/10/2014).
