Journey to the West-A Case Study on the Gentrification of the Urban Spaces in Panzhihua, Sichuan Province

For the past few decades, the rapid urbanization process swept China, the transitions of the overall urban-rural landscapes became a common scene. In comparison, there is a visible gap between the Eastern Coast and the Western Hinterland in terms of urbanization processes, faster-paced modernization and globalization of the East enlarged its social & economic differences with the West in many aspects. However, based on the real estate industry, despite lacking the solid foundation of various industries, many Western side cities and towns multiplied their sizes. The 'gentrification' is an obvious phenomenon that the relocation households emerged as a new rich stratum in certain degrees, and in landlord forms as usual. The neighborhood evolution and involution took place in the newly developed semi-urban space, and the scenarios of many layers have transformed into localized forms. In this paper, we will look through the term "gentrification" in terms of the case studies in Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province, a once prosperous industrial city, which currently enduring an industrial transfer. And examine the urbanization neighborhood under its industrial destitution and not easy industrial transfer.
